Explore Northern
Michigan
Below are some of our favorite spots and things to do in Northern Michigan. We hope you'll take time to explore and get a taste of why this place is so special to us..
Traverse City
There is a beautiful boardwalk right outside of both recommended hotels that takes you along the Grand Traverse Bay. If you walk across the street, you’ll land on Front Street which takes you downtown Traverse City where you’ll find some great breweries, restaurants and shopping. We’ve also included some favorites throughout the city so feel free to adventure!
American Spoon Foods
A Northern Michigan classic for incredible jams, salsas and other delicious bites.
l.a. cool
Chelsea’s favorite women’s clothing store in the area. A lot of great, hard to find brands / designers with great style.
Coffee shops
There are quite a few, but our two favorites are Hexenbelle and Rough Pony.
Farm Club
This place holds a special place in our hearts. This is where we went on our first date! They make their own beer and have food made from the local farm (and it’s insanely good). You can go and enjoy it at any time!
Modern Bird
Our favorite restaurant in the TC area. Beautiful interiors, a killer cocktail list and the menu is constantly changing. It’s a small spot, so be sure to make a reservation ahead of time!
Forest, A Food Studio
Neighborhood natural wine shop and cozy eatery. If you want to do more than shop around, book a table in advance!
The Cook’s House
A truly special tasting menu experience. They only do 2 seatings per night, so be sure to book ahead.
Old Mission Peninsula Wineries
Not a lot of people know, but Northern MI is known for its wine! Gorgeous views and fabulous wine can be found all along this peninsula. You really can't go wrong, but below are some of our favorite stops on the wine tour:
Mari Vineyards
Black Star Farms
Bonobo Winery
Bry Estate
The Little Fleet
A parking lot filled with incredible food trucks, picnic tables and a bar…literally. Great vibe and the food is awesome.
The Filling Station
Great selection of beers and woodfire pizza!
Water sport and activities
If you’re feeling adventurous, there is a rental house right outside of the Delamar where you can grab jet skis, kayaks, etc.
Bellaire
A small town with some fun charm. A 50 minute drive from Traverse City and 10 minute drive from Coop’s Cove on Torch Lake, where we will be hosting our Lake Day.
Short’s Brewing Company
Bellaire is their flagship location, with both a brewery and restaurant. This is Wes’ favorite spot in all of Northern Michigan and for good reason - the beers and food are truly unmatched.
Mammoth
Locally made and bottled in Northern Michigan, Mammoth Distillery has a tasting room just next door to Short’s where you can taste any one of their spirits or grab a cocktail.
Ruthie’s Dairy Twist
A childhood favorite of the Cooper’s, this place has the best chocolate dipped cones and ice cream around.
Be Well
If you love mead and cider, this is your place!
Dockside
This spot runs a close 2nd to Short’s as Wes’ favorite. Situated just 5 minutes down the road on Torch Lake, it’s the perfect spot to grab a pitcher of beer and some appetizers and sit outside on the water.
